It was just as people in the United States were only starting to realize that Covid was a thing, and I helped gather almost 800 people together to basically talk to each other in close quarters for hours at a time and pass small items back and forth. Oh, and we had a buffet too. Sounds irresponsible as hell by today's standards, but O! the heady times of early March. (Though I'm posting on the date this event happened, like everything else in the blog, I'm writing this post in October of 2020.)
Tennessee Game Days is a board game convention that was on its 15th year in 2020. I've co-organized it for the last 10 of those years.
The "passport" is our name badge; the event schedule is on the inside. At the bottom, you get a meeple for every year you've attended. This was my 13th. "I don't remember, but there's a schedule hanging around your neck." is something I say with a genuine smile about a bajillion time over the weekend. :)
Two other co-organizers bring along just as much, so we have a library of a little over 500 titles.
I'm happy to report that not a single case of Covid has been traced back to TGD 15. If the event had been scheduled even 1 week later, we would have canceled it. We just operated under the best information we had at the time, and made everyone hand sanitize upon entry.
We typically do a fall event, but it's been canceled for 2020. There's really no telling when/what/if TGD will be like in 2021. We certainly hope to bring it back in the future. It's always a fabulous event, attended by great people.
